LED Softball Scoreboards & Video Boards

Fastpitch scoreboards sized for a tighter field, with lineup, line scoring, and sponsor panels that stay readable from the first row to the outfield fence.

Softball programs usually get the hand-me-down version of whatever the baseball field has. That is a mistake. A softball field is smaller, the crowd sits closer, and the board has to do more with less space. This page covers what to get right when the board is for softball first.

Our softball install: Riverdale High School

We built and installed the softball videoboard at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro. It carries full game stats, a rotating lineup, and integrated sponsor panels, and it was sized to stay legible in every lighting condition the field sees, from bright afternoon sun to night games under the lights.

Riverdale's baseball field has one of our boards too, so the two programs run the same control software and the same volunteers can operate both. If you are near Murfreesboro and want to see the softball board in person before you commit, ask and we will set it up.

What a softball board needs to show

  • Line score by inning, plus runs, hits, and errors.
  • Balls, strikes, and outs, large enough to read from the dugouts.
  • The batter at the plate and the batting order, with player photos if you want them.
  • The current pitcher, tracked by the software instead of typed in each inning.
  • Sponsor panels that rotate between innings or run alongside the score.

A full-color video board can also run walk-up graphics, player introductions, senior night features, and replays. A smaller board can still carry all of the scoring above with a sponsor panel beside it.

Why softball sizing is different

Softball fields are shorter than baseball fields, so the board sits closer to the stands and the dugouts. That changes the math. A closer viewer can read a smaller display, but they also notice coarse pixels, so the right choice is often a slightly smaller board with a finer pixel pitch rather than the biggest board the budget allows.

Most high school softball programs land on one of our entry or mid-range packaged sizes. Dimensions, square footage, and starting prices for all six are in our Display Packages section. Tell us the field and we will tell you which one fits.

Sun, placement, and structure

Softball is mostly played in daylight, often with the sun low behind the outfield. We look at your field's orientation and the times you actually play before recommending brightness and placement, because turning the board a few degrees is cheaper than buying brightness you do not need.

Most softball boards sit beyond the outfield fence on a freestanding structure. Plan for footings, a power run, and a data run back to the press box or dugout where the operator sits.

Fastpitch, rec leagues, and little league fields

The same approach works for travel ball complexes, parks and recreation fields, and little league diamonds. We can plan and quote several boards at once for a multi-field complex, and smaller fields often only need a scoring board with a single sponsor panel. If you are running a complex, tell us how many fields and we will quote them together.

Paying for it

Softball boards are usually funded by booster clubs, foundations, and local sponsors rather than the district capital budget. Sponsor panels on the board are what make that work. See how a scoreboard pays for itself with sponsors for how schools structure it.

Software built for the game

We write our own scoreboard control software. The baseball and softball version handles the lineup, batting order, and pitcher tracking directly, runs on a normal PC, and a parent volunteer can learn it in an afternoon. For more on our diamond installs, see baseball and softball scoreboards.
